A career in nursing is the perfect career choice if you like to help people. The core of nursing is helping those who need the help: the patients. As a nurse you are the front-line in healthcare. You’re the one who spends the most time with the patients, taking vitals, making sure that they are comfortable and well on their way to getting better. You help the doctors with a plan of action when it comes to each patient’s recovery.

Of course, you can’t just decide you want to be a nurse, apply for a job and get hired. You first need to make sure that you get the proper training to qualify to be a nurse. There are also different kinds of nurses and each one has its own training program. But it’s hard to know if you want to go into a speciality until you know more about nursing. A good LVN school will give you an excellent education and also the foundation you need if you decide to go into a speciality.

A licensed vocational nurse assists the registered nurses and doctors with patient care. While in school you will learn every aspect of patient care from assessment to follow up care. And you won’t just be learning from books: most programs are very hands on and you will be working with patients in a clinical setting. And since most programs aren’t that long (around 13 months) you’ll be working as an LVN in no time.

If you are deciding on a career path and you love the idea of helping people when they need it the most, then studying to become an LVN is a perfect fit. You’ll get to work in a wonderful and challenging environment while doing what you love best: helping those who really need it.

The Burden Of Paying For College

Students have enough to worry about and financing college can place an enormous amount of stress on them. Not only is college expensive, everything else that goes along with an education is as well. Living expenses, travel expenses, books and other necessities can quickly add up. There are some options that students entering college or returning to complete their degree have. Many of the opportunities out there for college students are grants and scholarships, making them “free money”. There are also several loan programs, but the only bad thing about loans is that they must be repaid with interest.

The best way to pay for college is begin saving as an infant, but unfortunately this is not always possible and certainly not feasible! That leaves the rest of us looking for ways to finance our education. Finding money for college is easier than it sounds, there are tons of resources offering money for specific degrees, studies or other affiliations. The only problem is often that students feel that they would never qualify therefore never looking or inquiring. This is a mistake on the part of the student because they are basically throwing money out the door. It is there for the taking and someone has to claim it, so it may well be you!

Start At School

The best way to find out about current lending or monies for college is at the school level. This could be the high school of the student or the college that they are planning to attend. All colleges have financial and admissions counselors that are up to date on all the offers out there. They know far more than anyone because they work with it everyday and the lenders, donors and administration of funds contacts them directly! They have the direct link to the money and the student, so it makes them a wealth of information about college funding. Don’t try to go it alone when looking for ways to finance your education, contact the school and let them help you. It is a free service and they want to find money for you so that you can attend their college, it is job security for them as well.

Special Programs

The type of degree that a student is seeking can also open up financial doors. The government will offer additional funding and great incentives when there is a need for a specific career. Many careers suffer shortages of employees and statisticians predict that there will be shortages of nurses, teachers, police and many more. Again by checking with the local financial aid office of the university the student can learn about programs directed at specific degrees or plans. The stipulation to some of these programs is that the student will agree to enter into that profession for a set amount of time after graduation. If it is something you are going to do anyway, take the money and run with it!

Organizations & Affiliations

There are many organizations and affiliations that offer money to students for college all over the world. In many cases it is as simple as writing an essay or filling out an application. The biggest problem with this type of financing is the fact that many students do not even realize that they are eligible. And, sometimes this type of money can be relatively difficult to find. One thing that a student may look for is corporations, large companies or other organizations in their area. If the company/organization has a website, take a look as there may be information about financial aid programs through their company. The same is true for affiliations of parents and students alike. Many organizations such as membership clubs, hobby clubs and the like will offer money to help defray the costs of college. They may only be small grants, but every little bit helps!

Writing For Money

Many scholarships and grants alike require the submission of an essay. In most cases students have to write an essay about their goals, and why they deserve the money. This worries most students because they need that money, but their writing skills may not be the best in the world. There are numerous resources that can help with the submission of an essay. There are several tips and tricks that can have you writing an award winning essay in minutes. Be sure to proofread the essay and correct any mistakes before sending it in though! It never hurts to have someone else look over it as well!

There are a number of ways to qualify for money to pay for college. Most of it is a hunt for the money and applying yourself just a little bit. The money is not going to jump out and grab you so it will take a little research on your part. Ask the financial or admissions counselors for help, most of them are glad to help!

North America is crazy about football. From community teams and high school teams, right up to the NFL, football fans are among the most loyal fans of any sport. Fans especially love college football.

The College football season usually begins at the start of the fall semester. Colleges take their football team success very seriously, and work their players as hard as possible. In U.S. college football, the goal is to reach one of the bowls, with the main focus being the Rose Bowl. This is a showdown of the two best college teams battling for the championship title. Many college football teams dream of winning the Rose Bowl title, but there are other bowls to strive for as well. The Orange Bowl, one step down from the Rose Bowl, is played in Florida; hence the name. The Sugar Bowl is another important college football event.

Students play college football with hopes of taking their talents all the way to the top. Talented players make a name for themselves and for their schools. College coaches visit high school teams to scout new talent. They try to recruit the best players, because at the college level, football is a very serious sport. All college coaches want to ensure winning lineups for their schools. Students wanting to further their football careers should be careful to choose a school that will provide a good education, while also earning the attention of professional teams. Many professional coaches scout college players in their junior and senior years, and try to recruit them for the NFL. It takes real talent to make it to the big leagues. Some college students are able to make a successful adjustment, while others may not even make it through training.

College football is huge, with both fans and entire communities taking pride in their local teams. Games are played to capacity crowds. Unless it’s a bowl, colleges allow people to come the day of the game and purchase their tickets. When purchasing bowl tickets, it’s important that they are reserved early in the season so that you are able to get a good seat. Students supporting their home school are usually offered game tickets at discount prices, because colleges want the students to provide a big showing of school pride.

Football fans looking for an intense game played by talented athletes choose college football. It’s fun to follow the college teams, because you never know whether your campus star may become the next big thing in the NFL.

By Andrew Bleak

Today, only few are blessed with the opportunity to sit down in a classroom and study in a university. The most an average person gets is a high school diploma. Time, finances, and other problems hinder most from enjoying the full benefit of higher learning. But fortunately, when it is most needed, the internet came through for those who crave education. That’s right, college courses can now be taken via the internet through online classes. Language, *business, and marketing* are some of the common courses taught online. Although college online courses has been around for quite some time, there are still online students who act like they are in a rowdy frat party.

Understandably, the internet is one space where barriers are broken. But this is not an excuse to be impolite, rude, and insensitive to other people. The internet should be a space for fostering mutual respect between different persons. This is one of the goals of college online courses. The schools operating these online classrooms are trying to emulate the atmosphere of real universities but there are those who insist in being Neanderthals. Do not waste the opportunities provided by online education. Take advantage of the comfort and knowledge these online courses seek to impart by following simple rules of online college etiquette. If you have been a victim of these insensitive jerks, don’t retaliate. Instead, be someone who leads by example. Who says great leaders come out of universities? There might be one out of an online college course.

As in real classrooms, online college courses also feature discussions between the students and the moderator or instructor. It is important to join and be updated about the current lessons so log in every class schedule. It’s not your classmates’ obligation to keep you posted. Arguments escalate quickly in these discussions since everybody can have their say simultaneously. But before typing in responses and arguments, it is best to take a moment to collect and organize thoughts. Objective arguments are often more valid and sound than those random comments driven by the heat of the discussion. Your arguments cannot be easily refuted if they are constructed well. Discussion boards are also not the place to use shortcuts in language. There may be people enrolled who are not well-versed in internet expressions. It is essential for students to use good and effective communication skills. Effective communication means brevity. Be concise in your comments and make every word count. People will lose interest in reading posts that are too long. It is also important to make your views within the context of the current topic. Indicate in your subject lines the main point of your comment or argument. This promotes continuity of the discussion.

When you speak to somebody, you consider his facial expression and body language. Since these are impossible to determine in discussion boards, emoticons and typing style are the usual indicators of emotions. However, avoid the use of too much emoticons. These are distracting and consume space best used for expressing your thoughts. Your word choice is more effective in conveying your emotions. Also, avoid typing in responses in capital letters. All caps make it seem that you are shouting, which is most impolite. Your are entitled to your own opinion about the topic but this is not an excuse to put down others. When making a contradictory remark, express it in a manner that will not embarrass your classmate.

Even online college courses are not exempt from paper work and assignments. Be familiar with the objectives and course structure. Moderators and instructors usually send course syllabus and requirements at the start of the term. Read and clarify everything with your instructor before the start of the *internet class*. The instructor may not have time to answer trivial queries which should have asked before the class started. Take note of the minimum standards and strive to achieve and surpass these. An “A” is still an “A” even outside the university. Read required books and review for exams. Punctuality is still a major requirement in online classes so make it a point to submit requirements on time. The internet is an inconstant thing. It may come through for you during research but flake out during crucial times like emailing your assignment and exams. To prevent this and avoid using the internet-lost-your-homework excuse, CC your documents to yourself. If you received your copy, there is no reason your instructor would not. But as a precaution, do not delete anything even in your sent folders until the course is finished. Online college courses can be fun if you take the initiative to do well.

By David Chandler

Due to ever-increasing costs of going to college, it is a good idea to search out available scholarships and apply for them. Scholarships are one of the most enticing forms of financial aid available today. This is because they are available to anyone without any repayment requirements! Many scholarships are overlooked and therefore are a missed opportunity for many students.

If students know about scholarships, they can apply for them, but many students do not know that college scholarships exist. Most students do not understand that there are scholarships obtainable to them, which could pay a major part of their education. In fact, the college scholarship can be used for any educational opportunity. This is includes private or public college, junior college or four-year universities, graduate or certificate programs.

What are college scholarships?

College Scholarships programs come in a variety of forms, which are normally considered free college money. College scholarships, unlike loans, do not have to be repaid. Scholarships can be awarded directly to students in a form of a check or to the school itself. You can receive a scholarship from any of the following types of organizations: charitable foundations, businesses, schools, universities, government agencies, and sometimes-even clubs or groups within the school.

Who can get college scholarships?

Although many scholarships are granted based on grades, this is a misconception. There are scholarships for less than perfect academics as long as you meet the other requirements. They range from athletic scholarships, to community service scholarships.

Many scholarship providers want to reward students for choosing a particular school or state. It is believed by older students that only college-bound high school seniors can apply for scholarship awards, this is not true. Scholarships are accessible for all levels of college study, from freshman undergrads to graduate students. You will need to make sure that you check the requirements for each scholarship for which you apply.

How do students find college scholarships?

It takes some time and energy to find and apply for scholarships, but the hard work will most likely pay off. You can sometimes find them by asking department heads if there are available scholarships, in the department you will major in.

Some student’s use highly regarded and accurate scholarship search services on the Internet to save time in the searching process. This is highly recommended. Online resources are a good idea as long as the website offers updated, current data and a way to match the student with the scholarship.

High school students can ask their guidance counselors about their eligibility for local or state scholarship awards. You should also make sure that you contact the financial aid office at the school you plan to attend, to see if they qualify for awards issued by the school. Finally yet importantly, students should ask their parents and friends to be on the lookout for scholarships, while always checking local bulletin boards and newspapers for additional scholarship listings.

To a high school senior, your last year in high school flies by. Overnight you find yourself faced with many adult decisions that once seemed so far away. With senior proms, skip days, senior trips, senior romances, and graduation; it is hard to find time to think about college. However, this is the most important thing to think about. It is also important to start thinking about this subject early since many scholarships and college applications have deadlines.

One way to help you prepare for college is to organize. Even if your organization only consists of a folder dedicated to college related papers, you will find it makes things a lot easier. This folder should contain your college brochures, applications, scholarship info, SAT or ACT scores, and any other relevant information.

Another way to prepare for college involves keeping track of important dates. If you don’t already have a calendar this is the year to purchase one. You will have many dates to post on your calendar including, deadlines, orientations, and scheduled appointments. These dates, though very important, can be forgotten when faced more pressing issues like first romances.

In addition, to being organized and keeping track of important dates, it is a good idea to visit with your guidance counselor. In fact, it may be good a idea to have your parents sit in on this conversation if they did not attend college. Many parents are as new to the experience as you are and will need to be familiar with some aspects that effect them, especially funding. Your guidance counselor will guide you through the requirements for college including standardized tests, and high school courses that need to be taken.

The next step is to find a college. The best way to do this is by gathering information. Don’t make any decisions until you have all of the information in front of you. This information may come from parents and family, brochures, the internet, college tours, and your guidance counselor. When you have narrowed down a college you can then begin the application process. If you are planning to stay in the dorms, you may also need to fill out an application for that as well.

Another huge step is to find funding for college. Don’t let the price of attending college scare you out of trying. There are many sources to help you fund your education. The most common source is the government. To apply for federal aid you will need to file a Federal Application for Student Financial Aid or a FAFSA. Don’t let the name scare you. This is not as hard as it sounds. However, you will need to have your tax information and the tax information from your parents. A lot of colleges will help you with this process and can even file online for you.

Other sources are scholarships from the college you are planning to attend. The application for a college’s scholarship is usually included in their application packet. In addition, other scholarships related to your major or desired profession may also be available. There may even be scholarships available for your race, age, or other characteristics. The internet is a great source of information to find scholarships that are not run by your college. You may also want to enter contests or pageants to earn money for college.

It costs a lot to go to college or university and the increasing costs have many wondering if there is real value to a college education. Is the cost of tuition, the time lost to full-time employment, and the thousands of dollars of debt worth the investment? Those are good questions and the answers may lie in a review of the value of a college education and rates of return on investment to both the individual and to society.

On the financial side of the equation there is significant data to suggest that on average and over time a college graduate will earn a great deal more than a high school graduate. The United States Census bureau estimates that over a lifetime a college graduate will earn on average about $2.1 million dollars compared to an average lifetime income of $1.2 million dollars for a high school graduate.

Compared with the cost of attending a four year public university of college at an average of about $10,000 per year and even adding the cost of lost working time, it is clearly of financial value to attend university.

But college graduates also enjoy other benefits in addition to the possibility of increased earning power. In 1998 the Institute for Higher Education Policy published a report that stated that people who completed a college or university program experienced a number of ancillary benefits. They included higher levels of saving, increased personal/professional mobility, improved quality of life for their offspring, better consumer decision making, and more hobbies and leisure activities.

Another report published by the Carnegie Foundation noted some other benefits of higher education that included the tendency for postsecondary students to become more open-minded, more cultured, more rational, more consistent and less authoritarian and that these benefits are also passed along to succeeding generations.

A college education can even improve your health and a number of research studies have shown positive correlation between completion of higher education and good health, not only for oneself, but also for one’s children.

There is also benefit and value to the public from higher education. According to the Institute for Higher Education these benefits include increased tax revenues, greater workplace productivity, increased consumption, increased workforce flexibility, and decreased reliance on government financial support.

So it appears that even after rigorous scientific review and analysis there is still much value in a college education. But I think we knew that all along.

If my GPA is low, does that mean that I can’t go to college? No! Although your GPA is one element that the admissions committee will be evaluating, your GPA alone does not get you into college. In this article, we’ll discuss how to get into college with a low GPA.

Here are some ways that you can combat that low GPA:

Score high on the SAT/ACT. Schools are beginning to weigh student’s standardized test scores more heavily than ever before. This is your chance to shine in front of the admissions committee. In order to do this though, you have to put in some effort. If you adequately prepare for your upcoming standardized exams, you can achieve a high score without a problem. Don’t be afraid to sign-up for a SAT or ACT prep course or to go down to your local bookstore to pick-up a book that has some practice questions. Remember, practice makes perfect…well, maybe not perfect, but practice makes a HIGH SCORE!

Be Active on Campus. Are you president of student government or the captain of the cheerleading team? Tell them about it! Leadership skills and extracurricular involvement is a big deal to the college admissions committee. When filling out this part of your application, it’s okay to brag a little bit. Make sure you use words like teamwork, leadership, time management, collaborate, team player, etc. If you’re not that active on campus, no worries…there’s always time to sign-up for volunteer work. Community service demonstrates activism and dedication. You can typically find volunteer opportunities posted on bulletin boards around campus, just keep an eye out for them.

Write a GREAT Entrance Essay. Really take your time on this part of the application. Make sure you fully understand what the admissions committee is asking you before you formulate a draft. Once you have a full understanding of the question, take a few days just to brainstorm about possible things that you may want to write about. Make sure that you grab the reader’s attention and give specific examples. Also, it’s important that you have someone else proofread your essays to ensure that it is free of punctuation, grammar, or spelling errors.

What if I try all this and I still can’t get into a 4-year college or university? Don’t get down on yourself. You still have some other options. There are many top-notch community colleges and online programs that you could attend. Take a couple years to get your grades up to prove to the admissions committee that you are indeed deserving of acceptance into their university. As long as you’re successful in these college-level courses, you’ll have no trouble getting into a 4-year college or university.

This is how to get into college with a low GPA. Are you feeling more encouraged? I sure hope so. Now go get started on putting some of these action items into motion. I know you can do it!

Good Luck future college student!

By Tom Tessin Most students go to college far away from their homes. Even if it is just an hour or two away, they still need transportation.

By Tom Tessin

Most students go to college far away from their homes. Even if it is just an hour or two away, they still need transportation. Many universities don’t allow freshmen to have cars on campus, so that gives them a year of saving to come up with a down payment for their new car. However, sometimes it’s hard for freshmen to work. Luckily, there are always student credit cards to help out! A great solution to the financial crunch many college kids find themselves in is a student credit card. That’s because students can apply for the card, receive it within a couple weeks, and then have the buying power they need. They will also start their credit history, which they will need if they want to buy a car!

IT is highly recommended to begin this process when a student turns 18. That means they will get their first credit card, start building a credit history, and then have the credit rating and buying power to get their first new car in their own name!

Some credit cards also offer points for money spent throughout the year and then give discounts on cars. There are many student credit cards out there and some offer special benefits for buying a car. So, students need to do the research so they know what kind of vehicle they want to purchase so they can choose the best card for them.

How to Get Started?

Students should start the process by doing a little research. Once they find the right credit card then they need to apply for it. Most credit cards can be applied for over the Internet and even receive an instant credit decision. This is great because it lets you know immediately if you are approved or not. If you are approved, you will be given your credit limit so you know what your buying power will be. This is excellent for those who want to start shopping around for the car of their dreams.

Once you have the credit card then you can start shopping for the car you want. Not to mention you will know how much of a limit you are working with as far as a down payment goes. You may want to talk with a dealer and find out what kind of budget you are looking at so far as what credit you would be approved for. This is important because if you want a $20,000 vehicle but your credit rating, down payment, and income only qualify you for a $12,000 car then you will want to know that so you can shop within your budget.

Getting your first car can be a hassle when you’re on the hunt. Make sure that you take your time when you’re making a big purchase like a car, especially if it’s for school. You’re going to want something that’s dependable and something you can rely on. If you make a bad choice, you may be stuck with it!
