“I don’t think I’ll go to college.” How many times have we heard that line in TV shows and movies? Countless. But if parents can afford sending their students to colleges or universities, they do. Statistics show that those who pursue further studies after high school are more successful in the real world.

Most companies hire potential employees who have college diplomas. If they come from Ivy League universities, the better. They know there are some applicants who may not have the same education as those of the Harvard and Princeton graduates yet possess street skills. They are also hired, as long as they have certificates from colleges or an associate degree.

That is the exact reason why people are finding ways to afford colleges. Parents are already saving up while their children are still young. They apply for trust funds and education plans.

Unfortunately, some parents can’t afford colleges. There are those who aspire to step into a college or a university, thus they make it happen themselves. They are working students.

There are also men and women in their mid 30s or 40s attending night classes to get a diploma or certificate. They know that this piece of paper is crucial in the professional world. It will give them an edge when they apply for a certain positon in a big company.

There is a demand for higher education. Whether it be from a private college, public university, vocational institution or community college, as long as the student has the papers showing that he pursued further studies, a business establishment is more interested with his potential.

“Why do I need a college degree?” This is the question most high school students ask. This question is often answered by the fact that men and women who went to college or obtained an education similar to it (associate degrees, night school, online degree, college or state campuses) earn more money than a high school graduate.

Imagine this. One year of college already empowers the individual to cash in more money each year than a person who completed all four years of high school.

So if you are thinking of pursuing a career, you must already save up for the future. Colleges take up a whole lot of preparation. If you have parents who can cash you on with this plan then you are lucky.

If not but you are determined, start handing out your resume to part time opportunities now. It’s an investment worth taking for a better future.

The Burden Of Paying For College

Students have enough to worry about and financing college can place an enormous amount of stress on them. Not only is college expensive, everything else that goes along with an education is as well. Living expenses, travel expenses, books and other necessities can quickly add up. There are some options that students entering college or returning to complete their degree have. Many of the opportunities out there for college students are grants and scholarships, making them “free money”. There are also several loan programs, but the only bad thing about loans is that they must be repaid with interest.

The best way to pay for college is begin saving as an infant, but unfortunately this is not always possible and certainly not feasible! That leaves the rest of us looking for ways to finance our education. Finding money for college is easier than it sounds, there are tons of resources offering money for specific degrees, studies or other affiliations. The only problem is often that students feel that they would never qualify therefore never looking or inquiring. This is a mistake on the part of the student because they are basically throwing money out the door. It is there for the taking and someone has to claim it, so it may well be you!

Start At School

The best way to find out about current lending or monies for college is at the school level. This could be the high school of the student or the college that they are planning to attend. All colleges have financial and admissions counselors that are up to date on all the offers out there. They know far more than anyone because they work with it everyday and the lenders, donors and administration of funds contacts them directly! They have the direct link to the money and the student, so it makes them a wealth of information about college funding. Don’t try to go it alone when looking for ways to finance your education, contact the school and let them help you. It is a free service and they want to find money for you so that you can attend their college, it is job security for them as well.

Special Programs

The type of degree that a student is seeking can also open up financial doors. The government will offer additional funding and great incentives when there is a need for a specific career. Many careers suffer shortages of employees and statisticians predict that there will be shortages of nurses, teachers, police and many more. Again by checking with the local financial aid office of the university the student can learn about programs directed at specific degrees or plans. The stipulation to some of these programs is that the student will agree to enter into that profession for a set amount of time after graduation. If it is something you are going to do anyway, take the money and run with it!

Organizations & Affiliations

There are many organizations and affiliations that offer money to students for college all over the world. In many cases it is as simple as writing an essay or filling out an application. The biggest problem with this type of financing is the fact that many students do not even realize that they are eligible. And, sometimes this type of money can be relatively difficult to find. One thing that a student may look for is corporations, large companies or other organizations in their area. If the company/organization has a website, take a look as there may be information about financial aid programs through their company. The same is true for affiliations of parents and students alike. Many organizations such as membership clubs, hobby clubs and the like will offer money to help defray the costs of college. They may only be small grants, but every little bit helps!

Writing For Money

Many scholarships and grants alike require the submission of an essay. In most cases students have to write an essay about their goals, and why they deserve the money. This worries most students because they need that money, but their writing skills may not be the best in the world. There are numerous resources that can help with the submission of an essay. There are several tips and tricks that can have you writing an award winning essay in minutes. Be sure to proofread the essay and correct any mistakes before sending it in though! It never hurts to have someone else look over it as well!

There are a number of ways to qualify for money to pay for college. Most of it is a hunt for the money and applying yourself just a little bit. The money is not going to jump out and grab you so it will take a little research on your part. Ask the financial or admissions counselors for help, most of them are glad to help!

By Terje Ellingsen If you or a member of your family is planning to go to college, you probably should consider taking a college loan.

By Terje Ellingsen

If you or a member of your family is planning to go to college, you probably should consider taking a college loan. There are several ways to put together financing for college and there are also several financial sources you can combine when you need a college or student loan.

The expenses for studying varies from school to school. Some schools might be so expensive that you might have to take out more than one loan. However, college financing is cheap compared with private loans and as a student, you can also take advantage of school based financial aid, scholarships and grants.

If you haven’t already decided which school or schools you are interested in and are going to apply to, you should make a list of

colleges that interest you (Harward, Standford, Johns Hopkins or others) colleges that you are likely to get into.

How much do you need?

Like I said above, since the cost varies between schools, the college that you choose to go to will what determines how much money You’ll need to apply for. Here is what you should do: Add together;

fees

tuition

other school expenses (for example housing, food, transportation, books, lab fees and other relevant expenses)

deduct money you might have saved for college.

This should give you a good estimate of the student loan you’ll need to apply for. Once again as mentioned, college as well as all federal loans are cheap;

Low interest rates, you can wait to start paying them off until after your graduation.

Some types of student loans

Stafford Loans

These loans are meant for graduates and undergraduates and have a subsidized as well as an unsubsidized variant. The first means that interest doesn’t start to accrue before you begin to pay back your loan. Unsubsidized means that interest takes effect immediately.

Plus Loans – are targeted to parents of undergraduates.

Private college or student loans – Private loans should only be applied for, If you need additional funds.

If you put some time into applying for different scholarships –and there are lots of them – you may be able to finance your college experience without having to take out such big loans, or maybe even no student loans at all.

By Tom Tessin

If you are currently attending a college or university you most likely understand the high cost of tuition. The prices of going to college seem to just keep rising over the years. With such high tuition costs it is important to make sure we get the most out of college. We all want to go to college to better ourselves and get a good job in the future. If you are another one suffering for the prices make sure you are getting the most out of college as well. How can we do that? Easily read below and find out how you can start getting the most for your dollars spent on college.

Choosing classes – You want to make sure that once you sign up for a class you stick with it. Don’t sign up for a class if you’re unsure whether you will like it or not. Dropping classes is one of the worst things you can do in college. Since classes are so expensive you want to make sure you take the right classes. When we drop a class we can loose up to all our money we put into the class.

Do well – If you’re serious about a future career you need to be serious about your classes too. You want to make sure you get good grades and pass all your classes exceeding the minimum grade you can get. If you do poorly in the class not only will you most likely end up dropping it but you’ll loose a lot of money in the end. Also if you do drop it you will realize you just sat in the class, miserable for nothing.

Be there – When you sign up for a class you find out what days and times you need to be there. Since you know this information, do what it says. Going to class is one of the most important things in college. If you miss just one day you may be missing a pop quiz, a very important lecture or your attendance may go against you. Often in college professors mark you down for attendance and if you have so many they can fail you.

Professor – Be sure you talk with your professor and ask any questions you want. When we pay for our classes we also pay for the professors so take advantage of them! They’ve learned everything you’re learning so ask them questions. Stay after class or ask during class what ever works for you. Your professor is your best source in college so ask away.

Textbook – You pay such a high price for the book so make sure you use it. Your textbook can be just as good as getting information from your professor. Also a book is always something you can refer to so take advantage of it and get your money’s worth.

There is a lot you can do in college to make sure you get your money’s worth. College is a very expensive thing and is also very important. If you want to get the most out of college be sure you keep the ideas above in mind.

By Amy Nutt

Choosing where to go for post secondary education has gotten harder in the last few years. Even though there are more choices and options available, there are also more people going to college and entering the workforce. Future graduates have always had to think about a college’s location, price, accommodation, curriculum and reputation, and nowadays they also have to think about what their school will look like on their resume when looking for work in the future.

A lot of students have the bad habit of changing their minds about what career they would like to have, and unfortunately, this comes with changing majors. Some changes are small, but there are students that completely change direction and have to alter their course load, and this would be more difficult at a private college. Private colleges are much more expensive, and it would cost a student an awful lot of money to change his or her mind!

These days, a student has to make extra sure that they know exactly what they want to do for a living before they decide what kind of school to go to. This way, they will know which school will look the best on their resume. Whether or not an employer will care about which type of college an applicant lists on their resume all depends what career choice someone makes. Some employers barely look at the education part of a resume, caring more about skill and experience, while others scrutinize the education section.

If you are looking to make a career out of a job that is more skill based, it would probably be a better idea to choose a good community college. These types of colleges tend to offer much more hands on experience and learning than private colleges. Employers will be more likely to hire a student right out of college if they have had this type of learning. If your goal is to make a career out of a job that is more knowledge based, a private college may be a good choice. These fields can be more competitive, and employers are more likely to look at the education part of your resume.

There is a middle ground between the two career types discussed above, and for this broad span of career choices, students need not worry about which school to choose. These employers will probably mostly care about the fact that you have the education and experience for the job and will not be concerned about whether you went to a community college or a private college.

If you fall into that “middle ground”, you can feel free to make your choice based on what the school offers you, as opposed to choosing between community and private. If you have the money to spend, a private college might be a good choice, and if a community college has just what you are looking for, then it would be just as good a choice for you. There is not a established rule in what is better, it all depends in one’s needs.

By J. Vadney

Undeniably, parents serve as your very own foundation. If you have been raised by your own parents, you probably have seen how much effort they put into providing you what they think is best for you. Not only do they feed you, they also implement discipline techniques for you to grow up to be a good man. As you grow, it is not your physical growth that is important to them. They would also want to see your holistic development. In fact, they have struggled to be the best model that they can be for you and your siblings (if you have).

To pursue your dreams, you decide to go to college. It is your best bet towards a bright future. For sure, part of your dreams is the welfare of your parents. They would do anything just to see you fulfilled. As an incoming college student, it could be helpful to know how your parents can help you achieve your dream of pursuing college. Here are first year college student tips on what your parents can do to help you get there.

First year college student tip #1 Provide you the basic needs. Proper growth requires the basic needs such as food, shelter, clothing, and love. Your growth and your health will determine the things that you can do. You need strength in pursuing your goals.

First year college student tip #2 Be a role model. Parents must follow what they teach. That just about says it all.

First year college student tip #3 Monitor your grades. It is not enough that your parents know you are studying well. Before you can get to college, you have to meet the required grades for your chosen course.

First year college student tip #4 Guide you in choosing the course and college suited to your capacity. Your parents know you best. They know what are your weaknesses and strengths. They possibly could suggest the best course you have to undertake. Once you have decided what course to study, you could seek assistance from your parents regarding the school that you would like to attend to.

First year college student tip #5 Help you find a scholarship. Not all parents are rich. Lucky you if you have parents that can provide you with anything that you want and not just anything that you need. If you have struggling parents, the least that they can do is help you find a scholarship. If none could be found, maybe you could find a decent job to do while you save for some money for college.

First year college student tip #6 Assist in your needs. As much as your parents would like you to be independent, a little help for you wouldn’t hurt. Little things like money for gas or money for food could help you a lot. A parent’s role doesn’t end with the financial aspect, as what is emphasized in this article. Their support in different aspects is also very essential. We do experience ups and downs along the way. A caring and a supportive parent will always be with their children all the way. Whether you are hurt or happy, a good parent will hold your hands no matter what happens.

It is getting harder to pay for a college education these days, but it is by no means impossible. Getting college scholarships is still the best way to go, and there are plenty of them still around – even though money may be getting tighter. Here are some tips about how to get money to pay for your college education with college scholarships and student loans.

GET AS MANY COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS AS YOU CAN

The best way to go to college is to go free. College scholarships can enable a student to go to college without cost – if there are enough of them. In order to get as many as is needed to go without cost, you will need to apply to as many scholarships as possible. Of course, you want to only apply for those college scholarships that you have a good possibility of actually winning.

Finding the right college scholarships to apply to will require some work – and possibly some imagination, too. There are college scholarships for just about everything you can think of these days – and possibly some that are almost out of reach of the imagination, too. You can find them for academics, sports, hobbies, uniqueness – like a special last name or for left-handers, etc., your locale, and some that are just plain weird – like the duct tape prom college scholarship.

In order for you to learn about what college scholarships are available, you will need to do some homework. This includes researching them online, in the library, letting scholarship groups help you (be careful of these – some are scams), talking to your school counselors, and more. You can also look at the Web sites of the colleges that you are interested in, and they will show you what college scholarships are available there.

LOOK FOR COMPANY SCHOLARSHIPS AND INTERNSHIPS

Many companies also offer college scholarships, too. They do this because they want to have a qualified and trained pool of potential employees available when they need them. They usually look for exceptionally bright prospects that can bring much to the table if they should hire them.

Getting a college scholarship or an internship with a great company can lead to a great job right out of college. Sometimes, you may even be able to find your needed college scholarship simply by looking at the various companies you would dream of working for after you get your college degree. Look at their Web sites for more information.

APPLY FOR COLLEGE STUDENT LOANS

Because college scholarships may not cover your entire school bill, you may also need some college financing. Direct loans are available from the government, which will also give you the lowest interest rate possible on education loans.

Direct student loans, which includes the Stafford loans and the PLUS loans, accumulate no interest while you are in school (because the government pays for it while you are in college), or drop to less than half-time. You will not need to make any payments on the loan until you have been out of school for 6 months.

Graduate students and families of college students have access to PLUS loans for education and they also have the same terms as the Stafford loans – but a little higher interest rate. All government loans can be consolidated after graduation for easy payments.

GET STARTED EARLY

If you want to get the most out of college scholarships and student loans, then you will need to get started early. In fact, you should get started earlier than was necessary in previous years. With less money going around and with some college scholarships going on a first-come, first-served basis – you have no time to lose.

Finding the right college scholarships takes a considerable amount of time, and so does filling out scholarship applications and writing scholarship essays. In addition, in order to get a Direct loan, you will need to have filled out the FAFSA form, which is required for all government student loans.

FILL OUT SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS CAREFULLY

College scholarship applications require that they be filled out accurately and carefully. A little carelessness (or haste) in answering a question or two could needlessly cost you a college scholarship. This could mean that you may need to take much longer to pay off a college loan – when you didn’t have to.

Writing a quality college scholarship essay that will win a scholarship requires that you understand what the group offering it is looking for. Make yourself look like the person that they would like to represent and promote their company, college, etc., and you could walk away with the free college education you want. Be honest, though, in what you write – and you’ll be glad you did.

If you’re looking obtain college financial aid scholarships, you have certainly come to the right place. There are many students today that have the option to receive college financial aid scholarships in order to get themselves through college and find the right job for them.

However, not everybody will qualify for these scholarships. It will all depend on your grade point average and your overall financial situation. Here is some helpful information to help you find out whether or not you qualify for financial aid scholarships for college.

First of all, the first thing you will need to do is fill out a no cost application for Federal student aid. Of course, you need to have a financial crisis or lack of ability to pay in order to apply for this. If you don’t need the money and simply want a free ride, you likely won’t receive college financial aid scholarships because the government can’t simply help everybody through college; only those who need it.

Therefore, in this process you will need to demonstrate that you do have a need to receive financial aid for college. If you can’t show that you are lacking financially and need the money, then you will be turned down.

Of course, if you are ineligible to receive federal financial aid scholarships, you can always apply the college you are wishing to attend. This will probably be the last resort in order to receive financial aid. The reason is simple; it’s much harder to get financial aid from the school you plan on attending than it is from the government; therefore, this process should be the last resort.

If this doesn’t work out, you’ll probably likely want to apply for a student loan, to help you pay your way to college. No matter what your situation or current circumstances, there is a way to get through college. Don’t let a lack of money stop you from receiving the education that you deserve.

The bottom line is this: of a college education is necessary for most good jobs in today’s world. A lack of money should never stop you from receiving education that you need. Here’s another important tip to keep in mind, however; donn’t let the fact that you are getting college financial aid scholarships get you into the bad habit of borrowing are simply getting money from someone else.

Unfortunately, many people get into a bad habit of believing that they can have anything they want in life, because they don’t need the money for it. this is especially true when you receive financial aid or college loans. Therefore, while this might be a necessity for you depending on your situation, try to get into the habit of paying off your bills yourself, and you will not end up in debt down the road, like the majority of people do.

Follow these tips for finding college financial aid scholarships and you’ll be well on your way to receiving the money you need to get through college and find the right job for you. Nothing should hold you back from living the life of your dreams.

According to the United States Census Bureau, people with a master’s degree earn an average of around $55,000 annually. Although it may seem nearly impossible to attain higher education as a working professional, distance learning offers you the necessary flexibility to complete a master’s degree program. Rather than driving to attend scheduled classes, you can learn at your own pace in the environment of your choice making it easier to succeed in your studies through online education.

Criteria to Pursue an Online Masters Degree

To pursue a graduate degree through distance learning, you are required to hold a bachelors degree. In certain situations, professional field experience, undergraduate performance and exam scores (such as LSAT and GRE) are taken into consideration to qualify for an online graduate degree program.

Popular Online Masters Degree Programs to Pursue

According to the United States Department of Education, over 75 accredited universities offer online masters programs with a myriad of exciting degree options, including:

• Accounting

• Business Administration

• Economics

• Education

• Fine Arts

• Finance

• Science

This is just a sample of the popular master’s degree courses available through distance learning programs. You can choose to earn your masters degree in a variety of interesting areas through online education opportunities.

Choose an Accredited Online Masters Degree Program

You should verify that the institution offering the online education graduate course you select is accredited so that you do not lose precious time and money. Without proper accreditation, your degree will not be recognized by other colleges or certain employers. Graduate degrees accredited through official agencies, including the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the United States Department of Education, are considered valid.

Financing a Masters Degree Distance Learning Program

Students of all ages and from every background have a variety options available to pay for online masters degree programs. You can choose to pay for your education through federal aid, student loans or scholarships. Some jobs even offer employer assistance to enterprising employees, so ask your employer if they have such a program. A great advantage of earning a graduate degree online is that you save on room and board, which totals $6,000 to $12,000 annually according to the College Board.

Distance Learning Masters Degree programs require self-motivation

Because you take distance learning courses at your own pace, self-motivation is required to successfully completely the program and earn your masters degree. Let your family, friends and employer know that you are returning to school and enlist their support and understanding. If you are juggling multiple responsibilities, write your schedule down so it is easier to follow. Remember to fit sleeping, eating and recreation into your agenda – you need to stay healthy to effectively complete your online education while you handle your other duties.

Online education programs may include virtual lectures, reading, writing, online chats, emails, podcasting and videoconferencing. Certain distance learning masters degree programs require you to physically attend workshops or courses for residency hours. Testing is usually done through proctors, such as librarians, in your community. Take all of these educational requirements in mind when planning your schedule.

Earning a masters degree through an online education program is a personalized way to attain higher education at the school of your choice while balancing a demanding adult schedule.
